Meter Creep Test

In accordance with 180.416,(d), (4) of CFR49, the operator of a cargo tank must check the internal self-closing stop valve in the liquid discharge opening for leakage at least once each calendar month that the cargo tank is in service. A "meter creep test" on cargo tanks equipped with a meter is an acceptable test to meet the code. This presentation would be a review of the procedures that can be used to perform an effective meter creep test and details the requirements needed to achieve a successful test, as well as discussing the documentation for reporting.

Today's bobtails last longer and work harder than ever before. Salt and other road treamtent chemicals aggressively corrode steel, aluminum, and electrical systems. Hydro testing periods have been extended for certain bobtails, and service intervals for other components are being stretched. These factors increase the potentioal for unexpected down-time and increased reapir cost. This session discussed how to manage preventative maintenance to protect the investment in your fleet's bobtails.

Relief valves are a type of overpressure protection and it is important to understand how to properly size relief valves to protect your system. In this session, we will discuss the different types of relief valves along with the operation and function of each. The next portion deals with sizing external relief valves for commercial systems. The main take away for this presentation is to become better educated in the operation of relief valves and an understanding of how they work to protect your system.
